What Summer 2020 Senior Portraits Will Look Like
With summer 2020 just around the corner- we start to see some restrictions lifting in the Northeast. Schools are still closed- graduation ceremonies are cancelled, but that does not mean seniors haven’t graduated and celebrated with their immediate family and virtually with friends and relatives. One thing parents of 2021 seniors may be wondering about is how they will have their child's senior portraits taken. For now some parents may be reluctant to take their child to a studio or indoor location for their senior portrait photography, but fortunately state and public parks are opening back up and may offer a better solution.
STATE RESTRICTIONS AND WHEN CAN YOU BOOK A SESSION FOR
As we all know the rules have changed many times since shelter in place began. Every day something new seemed to pop up and quarantine dates changed and evolved. Pennsylvania began reopening counties in “phases” the state by county to determine what businesses could open and operate and who had to remain closed. NJ is also in the process of slowly lifting certain restrictions, especially for outdoor/recreational activities. Pay close attention to when your county starts moving to “yellow” in Pennsylvania. There certainly are a lot of unknowns right now as to what businesses can operate now and which ones cant. Make sure to reach out to your photographer ahead of time to assess the rules with them. Chances are they are in contact with the state and will know when restrictions lift. On the NJ side things are a little different and outdoor portrait shoots or okay- as long as you maintain proper social distancing and follow CDC guidelines to stay safe.
Where is a Good Location for Senior Portraits for Summer 2020?
“Better safe than sorry” is a great motto to follow. Many parents of our clients are too nervous to do any studio sessions, since it is a bit more challenging to practice social distancing. A private park or larger backyard is a great spot to consider for your senior session. We work with a lot of horseback riders and families with farms- so we can easily safely work on their property without worrying about a crowd.
